Common Questions

Materials & Pricing

Questions about what we purchase, how pricing works, and what your material is worth.

What types of carbide does AeroCore purchase?

We purchase all forms of tungsten carbide including solid carbide end mills, drills, inserts, boring bars, reamers, wear parts, carbide-tipped saw blades, mining bits, and carbide powder or sludge. We accept material in any condition — new, used, broken, worn out, or mixed lots. If it contains tungsten carbide, we want to purchase it.

How much is carbide worth per pound?

Carbide prices typically range from $6 to $12 per pound depending on the type, grade, and condition. Solid carbide end mills and clean, sorted inserts command the highest prices. Carbide tips and mixed lots fall on the lower end of the range. Prices fluctuate based on the current tungsten market, so contact us for a real-time quote on your specific material.

Do you purchase aerospace alloys like Inconel and titanium?

Yes. We actively purchase Inconel (625, 718, and other grades), titanium (Ti-6Al-4V and commercial pure), Hastelloy, Waspaloy, Monel, Kovar, and other nickel-based superalloys. We purchase turnings, chips, solids, bar stock, and finished parts in any condition. Aerospace alloys are priced based on the specific alloy grade and current market conditions.

What is the minimum quantity you accept?

There is no minimum quantity. We purchase everything from a single handful of end mills to full truckloads of material. Every quantity is welcome. That said, larger shipments may qualify for volume bonuses and prepaid shipping labels, so there is an incentive to accumulate material before selling.

Do you purchase carbide inserts with coatings?

Yes, we purchase all coated carbide inserts including TiN (gold), TiCN, TiAlN, AlTiN, and both CVD and PVD coated varieties. Coatings do not significantly affect pricing — the tungsten carbide substrate underneath is what holds the value. Used, chipped, or worn inserts are all accepted regardless of coating type or condition.

How do I know if my material is tungsten carbide?

Tungsten carbide has several distinguishing characteristics:

  • Extremely dense — it feels much heavier than steel for its size.
  • Dark grey color — ranges from medium grey to nearly black.
  • Non-magnetic — a magnet will not stick to solid carbide (though it may stick to steel shanks on carbide-tipped tools).
  • Very hard — a metal file will slide across the surface without leaving a mark.
  • Spark test — on a grinding wheel, carbide produces short, dark red, fork-shaped sparks (unlike the bright orange sparks from steel).
